As the United Nations sets climate change response and carbon reduction as key goals for sustainable development to mitigate global warming, the term "climate tech" is gaining significance in national policies and corporate management.

Climate tech, a blend of "climate" and "technology," refers to innovative technologies aimed at addressing the climate crisis through the reduction of greenhouse gas and pollutant emissions.

With a global campaign to save a planet suffering from immense CO2 emissions gaining momentum, climate tech has emerged as one of the most noteworthy technologies of this century. Severe droughts and floods frequently batter the Earth, glaciers in polar regions are melting, and Pacific island nations face the risk of sinking, leading to the need for relocation—these issues underscore the importance of climate tech in preventing environmental destruction and restoring the Earth’s ecosystem.

Domestic climate tech companies have now entered a phase of growth and advancement after their initial stages. This series will explore the strategies, achievements, and operational status of these transitioning climate tech firms.

REVATION is a company dedicated to developing eco-friendly packaging, materials, and designs, classified as a clean tech firm within the climate tech sector.

Clean tech focuses on the production and decentralization of renewable energy, prioritizing research into energy storage systems, hydrogen energy, and the exploration of alternative energy sources.

REVATION is characterized by its comprehensive one-stop solution process that spans eco-friendly material development, branding, design, and production.

What REVATION emphasizes goes beyond simply managing or recycling plastics; it seeks a more fundamental solution. The goal is to transition from petroleum-based plastics to 100% bio-based plastics. They quantify monthly carbon reductions, practicing value consumption alongside their brand partners. In August, the average carbon reduction amounted to 271,032 kg CO2e. Their primary customers range from large corporations like SK, LG, and Naver to over 100 small businesses.

One of REVATION's flagship products, the Paper Mold, transforms existing plastic trays and packages into 100% paper materials. The process involves breaking down paper materials, immersing them in water to create forms, and then using heat for design work before trimming the edges for packing and delivery. While traditional pulp molds are weaker and more expensive, REVATION has enhanced the Paper Mold to provide product protection comparable to plastic while reducing production costs by 60%.

During the design phase, they incorporate not only aesthetic differentiation but also eco-friendly materials to enhance client branding. The design is carefully crafted with considerations for convenience and safety.

Another material held by REVATION is the wood composite bioplastic Durasense, recognized for its carbon reduction effectiveness. Durasense is a competitively priced bio-based plastic made from wood fibers sourced from sustainably managed forests.

In March, REVATION collaborated with Industrial Bank to create cash trays using Durasense material, designed with the bank's core brand values and primary color blue to produce a sustainable and innovative product.

Moreover, REVATION was the first Korean company to win the Avant-Garde Design Award at the Packaging Première & PCD 2024 expo held in Milan, Italy, last May. This recognition came as REVATION's eco-friendly design using sustainable materials received high praise for its sustainability and aesthetic value at this prominent industry event.
