REVATION’s Path to Success: Combining Efficiency, Product Quality, and Environmental Responsibility

As South Korea’s first eco-friendly packaging development company, REVATION develops and produces carbon-neutral packaging solutions in response to the global carbon-neutrality trend.

REVATION’s main business focuses on 'PAPERMOLD' packaging solutions and 'BIOPLASTIC,' which replaces virgin plastic in consumer goods packaging for items like cosmetics, household goods, and electronics with eco-friendly materials.

“Producers have a responsibility for their products. Every company should strive for this. REVATION, as a research and development center for enterprises, offers a comprehensive carbon reduction solution. We help companies create differentiated products,” stated CEO Min-Sung Lee.

REVATION’s 'RESTUDIO' service is an eco-friendly packaging solution that optimizes the product development process, enabling clients to minimize steps and losses in development, which leads to significant cost savings. CEO Lee explained that RESTUDIO offers a full-service process for transitioning to eco-friendly products, solving the fragmentation issues faced by separate material, production, and design companies, which had previously hindered product evolution. The market has responded positively to REVATION's one-stop eco-friendly packaging solution, which recently expanded to include functional food and food packaging.

“To transform a product, you need to alter the entire process beyond a single material or production line. Products change only when planning, design, and R&D flow seamlessly together. RESTUDIO encompasses all of this,” CEO Lee noted.

REVATION, targeting B2B clients with its eco-friendly packaging solutions, has proven its competitiveness through numerous awards. In the "2024 Carbon-Neutral Fund Investment Pitch Competition," REVATION won the Excellence Award, identifying it as a promising climate-tech startup. It was also selected for the TIPS Overseas Marketing Support Program by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups this year. Furthermore, REVATION was recognized as one of South Korea’s Top 10 Startups of 2024 by the Silicon Valley-based magazine STARTUPCITY. Notably, REVATION won the Avant-Garde Grand Prize at the 'PCD Milano 2024' exhibition in Italy, becoming the first Korean company to receive this award in the design category.

“Many companies are attempting to go green, and there will be more in the future. However, investors and clients ultimately choose REVATION for the quality and completeness of our products. This is where the essential value of our products lies. REVATION creates high-quality, well-developed solutions based on an optimized system for our clients.”

REVATION has been focusing on expanding its operations internationally this year. With a solid foundation of references, the company is confident it can now compete globally. Recently, REVATION signed an export contract with a major Japanese multinational, expanding its global client base, and is preparing to enter Europe with a global sales team in France. CEO Lee declared that REVATION’s eco-friendly packaging solutions represent the most advanced climate technology in the packaging sector and that the company intends to break into the global luxury packaging market through continuous R&D and marketing efforts.

Global Standards for Carbon Neutrality and Leading the Shift to a Plastic-Free Society

CEO Min-Sung Lee developed expertise in product development while working for South Korea's largest consumer goods company. However, he became increasingly aware of the gap between the development direction of global top-five companies and that of his own company. While the international community had begun the shift toward carbon-neutral packaging, meaningful progress was lacking domestically. This realization led him to establish a business that would develop advanced, carbon-neutral products in South Korea.

Over the past three years, REVATION has attracted investment from five institutions, achieved cumulative sales of 3 billion won, and proved its market competitiveness.

"Before ESG became a buzzword, global companies were already reducing virgin plastic. I realized that carbon neutrality was essential to compete globally, yet there were no companies in Korea producing carbon-neutral products. So, based on my accumulated experience and know-how, I decided to launch this business.”

The European Union recently mandated carbon neutrality through the Eco-design for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), and if efforts to transition to a plastic-free society are not undertaken, Korean companies will inevitably face severe repercussions, such as global export restrictions. However, domestic corporations remain conservative and slow in comparison to the world's top 10 consumer goods companies. CEO Lee emphasized that while carbon neutrality is vital to international society and future generations, there is an urgent need for setting specific numerical goals.

REVATION is engaged in joint R&D through open innovation with major Korean corporations to better understand market needs. Leading the shift to carbon-neutral packaging, CEO Lee shared that he feels most fulfilled when talented individuals join the company and contribute to its growth. Communication is a top priority in the organization, and CEO Lee maintains open channels through one-on-one meetings, messenger platforms, and leadership conferences. He emphasizes "character" and "learning" as essential qualities for his team, believing these are necessary for genuine growth.

“Leaving a large company to start my own business was a significant leap. I feel a strong sense of accomplishment when the hypotheses I established take concrete shape in products and sales. Every time we create a product or service needed in the market, I find validation in these proven hypotheses.”

Guided by the philosophy of “turning thoughts into action,” CEO Lee has sought to bring change by acting on his vision. This approach is integral to his business operations, aligning his personal and corporate aspirations. He envisions REVATION as a global hub leading the transition to a plastic-free society and is determined to introduce groundbreaking products for the environment, leveraging innovation and exclusive technology.

REVATION is establishing itself as a leading climate tech and clean tech company in South Korea, providing a one-stop development solution for eco-friendly packaging that sets the standard for the industry’s future.
